The Open 5.00’s are almost impossible to capsize or sink which makes them one of the safest boats of their class. It is light, fast and it flies! The Open 500 has the same quality as it bigger sister, the Open 5.70, in that it is fast, reactive and jumps on to the plane. Its simple rig allows highly competitive sailing regardless of age and is a perfect boat to move up to from dinghies. The Open 5.00's are usually sailed with two crewmembers; however, there is plenty of room for up to 4. The Open 5.00 is designed so it can be towed with ease and it is so simple to set up, ensuring a minimum amount of shore time. The great advantage of this keelboat is its pivoting keel. This means you can pivot the keel on a downwind run in the same way you would a centre board, reducing drag and it also makes beaching and putting on the trailer so much easier.
